THE VIBE: CLUB MED IN THE โ80S
For me, the happiest place on Earth isnโt Disney World, itโs Club Med. Specifically, Club Med in the โ80s. When I was a kid, we went to the Club Meds in Eleuthera, Bahamas (twice), as well as Cancun and Huatulco, Mexico. Thereโs a utopian magic about the Club Med experience thatโs equal parts glittering ocean, coconut-scented sex, and gently swaying palm trees. Add copious amounts of deeply tanned European glamour and a buffet with chilled shrimp on ice, and thatโs basically Club Med. ๐ด These photos are all from an incredible Tumblr photo bog by urdarntootin, who used to be a G.O. (basically, a Club Med adult camp counselor) at a number of Club Meds back in the โ80S. Hereโs the link to his treasure trove of gauzy, sun-kissed โ80s Club Med memories. ๐
THE VIBE: VICE SQUAD AFTER DARK
This picture (Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas in Miami Vice) gives me chills, itโs so sleek and hyper-stylized. i could write fan fiction about that windblown palm alone! Crockett and Tubbs, PLEASE, take me along. I want to ride the night with you, into the bowels of this magic city. And we will emerge victorious, like diamonds sparkling on the sand, by dawn. ๐
THE VIBE: COLORFULLY SMOLDERING
This picture (Gia Carangi, photographer/date unknown) makes me giggle, because itโs so โ60s mod, with that silly cheek star. I mean, juxtaposed with that insane New Wave earring. But mostly, this picture makes me gaze in wonder at yet another example of Giaโs unfailingly smoldering good looks. โค๏ธโ๐ฅ
THE VIBE: SPANDAU IN THE BAHAMAS
This picture (a screenshot from the 2014 Spandau Ballet documentary, Soul Boys of the Western World) was from video footage from Spandauโs 1982 trip to Nassau, Bahamas, where they recorded the True album. The shot is of lead singer Tony Hadley doing a spot of sweaty jogging before flopping down by the boysโ private pool. Ahhhh, summer!! ๐
